Waterworld

We worked with Festival of Making, Newfield School and talented designer Katie Duxbury over 7 weeks exploring themes of the sea through dance and sensory textiles. Katie worked with us in the studio to design bespoke and extraordinary pieces. The young dancers have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the materials through dance, movement and play.

Each week students were invited to take part in a dance workshop exploring a magical and sensory world through dance, movement, music, touch and play. We developed a person-centred approach which gave ownership and creative realisation to the young people taking part.

The weekly sessions developed creative movement and dance skills, drawing on the themes relating to water and environment, tied to the class’s curriculum that term. Each week young people from the full school had the opportunity to join the dance sessions alongside a core group attending each session to develop a performance over the 8 weeks
