Dance and Parkinson’s Training Course
Developed and facilitated by Dr Melanie Brierley and Helen Gould, our weekend courses give dance artists and practitioners the knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, creative and effective dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s. Weekend 1: Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson’s
31 October and 1 November, Preston/Lancaster
For dancers and teaching artists new to working with people living with Parkinson’s.
An in person, practice based course based on the eight unit programme developed by People Dancing and Dance for PD®. It gives dance practitioners core foundational knowledge about the safe, effective and creative delivery of dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s. The weekend covers:
- The principles
- The medical condition and medication
- Safe practice and undertaking a risk assessment
- Teaching strategies
- Class design
- Exercise design
- Inclusion and accessibility
Times: Saturday 10.00am to 5.00pm, Sunday 10.00am to 4.30pm
Cost: £220 for People Dancing members, £300 for non members

Weekend 2: Professional Development in Dance and Parkinson’s
20 and 21 February, Preston/Lancaster
For artists with current or recent experience of leading, assisting with or teaching dance classes with, by and for people living with Parkinson’s. Participants should also have completed appropriate introductory training, such as the Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson’s course (in person or online). This course may also be relevant for Somatic practitioners and Dance Movement Psychotherapists.
Led by four highly experienced practitioners, these masterclasses focus on somatically informed, co-curated approaches to movement, the role of music and imagery, and working with neurological conditions and neurology. The programme includes contributions from Daphne Cushnie and Suzie Tate, with time built in for reflection and discussion.
